DNA day sales

Most sales for ‘DNA day’ have started already – Living DNA is an exception, and their sale is April 25. Today CeCe Moore blogged about the sales already available. So if you’re thinking about buying any kits, now might be a good time. (And if you’re not quite ready yet, there’s a high chance of a ‘Mother’s Day Sale’ soon!)

Today I’ve bought a Y-111 to Big-Y upgrade for my Dad at about half price.

St Patrick’s Day DNA sales

I’m still catching up from the wonderful (and exhausting) time that was Congress 2018.

Catching up on emails I’ve just noticed that many of the DNA companies have St Patrick’s Day sales (certainly FTDNA, Ancestry & MyHeritage).

I would guess there would be sales leading up to Mother’s Day in May, as well as US Father’s Day (June), DNA day, …

Valentine’s Day sales

Most of the companies are offering Valentine’s Day DNA sales, some just for a week or so, some until the end of February. See Thomas MacEntee’s post about it here or check out your favourite testing company.

Family Tree DNA Christmas sale is here

Family Tree DNA have just announced their Christmas sale prices, valid until 31 December.

All prices are US$ plus postage:
Family Finder (autosomal DNA, ie cousin finding, back to shared ancestors up to 5 or 6 generations ago) – $59
Y-37 (37 markers, father’s fathers back many generations) – $129     (Y-67 $229, Y-111 $299)
mtDNA full sequence (available to all, traces mother’s mothers back many generations) – $169

There are also bundles available on sale, eg Family Finder + Y-37 etc).

The other companies are bound to have pre-Christmas sales, maybe separate to (or not) “Black Friday” sales (Friday 24 November).

If there’s anyone you’re thinking of testing – or wanting to encourage to test, now is a good time!

AncestryDNA sale

Ancestry (Australia) is having a DNA sale, just until Sunday kits are only AU$104 (plus postage) rather than the usual AU$149.

The more family you test, the more you can discover. Each additional relative you test can reveal new details about your family’s story…and it’s fun to compare the results!

See AncestryDNA for details.

Living DNA sale

As of today, Living DNA is offering a DNA day sale of $40 AUD discount, making their test $159 AUD for the next few days.

While this company currently doesn’t offer “cousin matching” (matching you with others in the database) they say that is “coming soon”. The reason that some of us might consider testing with this company is that their admixture (ethnicity) predictions currently point to 21 different British regions and “in about 8 weeks” they’ll be adding 13 different potential Irish regions. Soon they’ll be adding 24 different German regions.

It’s a brand new company that launched late in 2016 so their database is currently small however they’re proposing much more accurate admixture or ethnicity predictions to those of us with ancestors from these countries.

DNA day sale

‘DNA day’ is April 25 – you can expect the DNA companies to probably have sales over that period.

I received an email from FTDNA today advising of their sale, starting 20 April 2017 (US time).

FTDNA sale prices Apr 2017

AncestryDNA has announced sales in US, Canada & UK but I haven’t yet heard if there will be a sale in Australia as well.

MyHeritageDNA has announced a sale – but don’t forget that you can upload raw autosomal data from other companies at no cost (only missing out on the ethnicity predictions). You would probably want to have a MyHeritage subscription to make best use of this.

LivingDNA has a sale in US & UK but the Australian price has not (yet?) changed.

Extra discounts at FTDNA

Anyone who has tested with Family Tree DNA is probably receiving weekly emails at present with the latest “Personal coupons” – extra discounts for ordering a new test. These can be shared with others. I’ve already gone through the various coupons I have to give the “Bonus Discounts” to a few people who wanted to order extra tests.

Someone today sent me an email with their latest reward email, in case it would be a help to anyone else (thank you!) It occurred to me that rather than everyone trying to upload to the blog every discount code they have, perhaps anyone still interested in ordering more tests could just add a comment to this blog post saying something like “I’m looking for a Y-DNA discount” (or mtDNA etc). Then anyone who wanted to help could just check the various kits they manage to see if they could offer a discount code.

With the Family Finder test currently at US$59 (as far as I know) no further discounts are being offered for that, but I’ve certainly seen various $$ amount discounts for Y-DNA, Big Y, mtDNA and mtFull. So if you are thinking of ordering any of those tests (either singly or in a package with Family Finder) let us know and probably somebody can help you save more money.
